El recuento se realizó a las 20:00, cuando la cabecera de la manifestación estaba llegando a Sol desde Alcalá. Al realizar el recuento una sola persona, se situó en la cabecera y recorrió la manifestación en sentido contrario, en aproximadamente tres minutos y medio (el movimiento de la manifestación durante ese tiempo se supone despreciable para los cálculos). Las fotografías de control empleadas para realizar el recuento son éstas. Basándose en estos datos, el área ocupada por la manifestación en ese momento fue aproximadamente la siguiente, utilizando Google Planimeter para delimitarla:
Siendo el área total de 4051 m2, y suponiendo una densidad media de 2 y 3 personas, la cifra de asistentes quedaría establecida en el rango comprendido entre 8100 y 12100 personas, aproximadamente. Teniendo en cuenta los importantes huecos que se aprecian en las fotografías de control, consideramos que la cifra más pequeña es la más cercana al número real.
